From Caroline:
I have just learned, rather belatedly, that there are NO rooms available on the Cascade Campus on Friday October 9th –enrollment is up 20% and apparently every serviceable space is being pressed into use. SO….I have scheduled a room for us on the Sylvania Campus.
MEETING LOCATION:
Oak Room in the CC Building, Sylvania Campus (Oak Room is located inside the main cafeteria)
Here’s the site for maps and location information: http://www.pcc.edu/location/
PARKING and TRANSPORTATION
To get a PCC parking permit contact Cherie Mass-Anderson at cmaas@pcc.edu. Tell her you need a permit for the OWEAC meeting on Oct 9th, and if you want permit for Saturday and Sunday for the TYCA conference, she can get you a permit for all three days (valid at all the campuses). Also PCC operates a free shuttle service between campuses, so anyone coming for the TYCA conference and staying near the Cascade campus can use the shuttle
HOTELS and LODGING
If you’re coming for TYCA, you’ve probably already booked at the Red Lion, which is the official hotel for the conference. Or if you want to be close to the Cascade Campus, I recommend the Kennedy School, one of the McMenamin’s hotels.
If you’re just coming for OWEAC and want a place nearby the Sylvania Campus, which is South of downtown, the best bet for close by is Hosptality Inn: 10155 SW Capitol Hwy, Portland, OR 97219 (503) 244-6684. Closest, and cheap–starts at $62–and by all accounts decent. Includes breakfast, and there are a couple good restaurants (Japanese, Thai) within walking distance.
There are a cluster of hotels about 4 miles south on I-5 at the Kruse Way Exit in Lake Oswego. There are also quite a few restaurants in this area. Here’s two, but there are others in the same location, a little spendier.
Phoenix Inn Suites: 14905 Bangy Rd, Lake Oswego, OR 97035 (503)-624-7400
From $99
Fairfield Inn: 6100 Southwest Meadows Road, Lake Oswego, OR 97035 (503) 670-7557
From $99
Let me know if you need further directions or information. My email is caroline.leguin@pcc.edu.

Southern Oregon University and Rogue Community College will share in providing breakfast for the OWEAC members attending the spring meeting. And for those of you who need parking permits, we will also furnish those. I suggest those of you who are staying at The Flagship Inn park there and simply cross the street to the meeting place. Lunch is on your own; the food court is in the same building where we will be meeting (Stevenson Student Union Building). We will be greeted at the beginning of the meeting by Dr. Paul Steinle, Assistant Provost of SOU.
Best regards,
Doyne

The next OWEAC meeting will be held on Friday, May 15, 2009 in Ashland.
Information from Doyne (Monday, April 13th)
Hello to OWEAC,
This is the first notice about the spring meeting on May 15 in Ashland at Southern Oregon University.
Room Arrangements:
As you probably know, room arrangements are difficult in Ashland because of the Shakespeare Festival. I have checked with several motels, and few have rooms.
We’d like to have a head count, so if you know for sure you will attend, please let me know by return mail as soon as you can.

I’ll post updates about the Cooperative Library Instruction Project as it develops. I hope your input will shape the vision and realization of this project! Below is the project overview from the handout I distributed at the fall OWEAC meeting in Bend. Although it has only been a short time since we met, my concept of this project has morphed and I think changing vision will be the norm for awhile. I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts and will put out a more formal call for ideas soon. ~Michele
Cooperative Information Literacy Project
Goal: Create a collection of information literacy tutorials that may be shared by Orbis Cascade Alliance institutions and eventually non-Alliance members.
Funding: The LSTA grant proposal has been selected for funding pending board approval, which happens sometime in October. The board has never rejected a proposal that has been recommended for approval, so the Project Team is moving forward with initial implementation work.
Project Team: Liaisons from four Oregon Cascade Alliance member institutions (Chemeketa Community College, Western Oregon University, Oregon State University, and Willamette University) plus a Project Coordinator to be hired pending final approval.
Have Your Say: Which tutorials are most needed? If only ten tutorials are created- which ones should they be? What is not needed? What’s missing that should be considered? What should the Project Team know going into this effort? Who else should be involved? How should we collect, add, and make available tutorials and materials that have already been created?
